YOUTH NEWS : U'15's in eye catching early season form.

2 months ago By Thomas Nicholls

Division 1 newcomers, under the guidance of Harry Shooman and Bailie Rogers, are proving to be a tough test for anyone.

After 7 years at the helm, Chris Walker stepped aside from managerial duties this summer as he handed the reigns to Harry Shooman & Bailie Rogers and the dynamic duo are enjoying life in Division 1 so far.

Saltdean United's Under 15's have a team spirit like no other and after three seasons of cruelly missing out on promotion, they've finally played their way into the top tier.

So, now they have reached Division 1, has it been a "backs to the wall job"? Well, so far so good!

Unbeaten and earning four points out of a possible six in their domestic campaign, the talented Tigers Youth also put current champions Barnham Trojans to the sword with a magnificent 5-2 triumph. Reflecting on the victory in the KO cup, gaffer Harry Shooman was full of praise for his young stars.

"A good contest with two good footballing sides going head to head.

I was really pleased with the start from my lads, we set up to be creative and “make things happen”.

We started well, creating chances however Barnham took an early lead and it killed us a little bit. We defended well until halftime taking it 1-0 at the break.

After a stern team talk from myself and Bailie we came out very strong, we matched them physically and played some really nice football.
Herbie Rogers brought the game level with a clever header. We then took the lead with a goal from our Top scorer Alfie Norman who slotted away a good counter-attack.

We were set to move into the next round but a lapse of concentration at the death cost us the win in 80mins.

In Extra Time myself and Bailie were very confident in our sides application throughout the game and it was only getting better and better towards the later stages of the game. Going into ET we had a clear game plan and it worked perfectly!

Using our bench wisely we were able to bring on fresh legs that ultimately won us the game!

Lewis Reap “El Rapido” came on and was a breath of fresh air! Beating full backs and getting crosses into the box. He created a goal from nothing after beating 2/3 players and whipping a great ball into the box, which Alfie Norman headed home superbly for his second goal of the game.

We looked very strong from there on in, Louis Thwaites found the top corner from another good counter attack to put us 4-2 up with 5 minutes left, the game was put to bed by a great set piece from Maxwell Walker who scored our 5th goal with a well struck free kick."
